As life has taken unexpected turns my perception of “getting away” has also taken a turn. Where I used to picture jet setting around I now find great joy just roaming deep into the great outdoors. Welcome to our “Great Outdoors” photo theme of the the week post. Keep reading to escape with me into many firsts in our roaming adventurous life.

Best Getaway Find in 2022 was in Lander, WY

Growing up in a land of concrete means dense housing, 5 minute errands, noise, pollution, nice restaurants, nearby airports, hustle, traffic, social scenes, weekly happy hours, and I think you get the point. I assumed that’d be how life would continue even into retirement.

Life had another path for me. First death, followed by a new found love, job changes, retirement, and eventually my first really long road trip has brought me along a path full or new experiences and places. That first trip 5 years ago was the pivot point. I knew then that escaping planned communities and leaving behind the conveniences of the city was the right way to live life.

Although we will always have a permanent home base we successfully downsize ourselves and live in 140 square feet and run away and live outdoors about half the year.

Now living life at home has new meaning as our view to the great outdoors is always evolving.

Here’s a sample of several first adventures and views in the great outdoors.

There is an ever flowing set of photos and memories already collected with our outdoors. I’m forever grateful to my husband for building our tiny home and wheels which has made the last 5 years of exploring together possible.
