Hop on in and celebrate the color blue, our monthly color challenge. Blue water, sky, mountains abound. Plus, I share what had us singing the blues and what is new and blue for us.

Blue is a relaxing color which is why open sky and clear blue water are calming elements to us. Blue can also depict a sad mood. It’s also one of my favorite colors. I also have to admit I’m guilty of thinking I had already published this post last week. Blue posts must really be blue having to sit in the draft folder for so long. Without further delay, here is LAST week’s photo post showcasing the monthly color, Blue!

Oh how we wish we were in any one of the above places, but alas as I mentioned in my previous post, we have been in Wyoming. For. Six. Weeks.

What Had Us Singing the Blues

We mistakenly thought we could get to Rawlins, WY and do a few repairs on a house. The house project is bittersweet as it reminds us of Mike, Steve’s older brother.

Mike passed away last fall after having lived with a painful, genetic bone disease calls osteogenesis. The house feels blue too however, we can breath new life into his home for its next family. Here’s the blue living room’s before and after photos.

This was good example to share especially since it fit the blue theme. The blue color wasn’t bad, especially for this large room. However, the wall paper was very dated and the glue was deteriorating; plus what you don’t see is how damaged the carpet had become. We attempted to clean the carpet but it was beyond help. Once the carpet was removed, it seemed obvious that the wall paper needed to go as well. The list just kept growing from there!

The scope of work included 2000 sq. ft. of new flooring, tons of sanding, painting, drywall and hole patches, 9 new windows, a rebuilt enclosed patio room (walls, ceiling, new roof, flooring), all related baseboards, boiler valve leaks, lots of scrubbing, 1/3 of the shingle roof replaced….and there was so much more we could’ve done if we had more time and money. In the end, it is still much improved and presentable. The project was bigger and much more time consuming than we had planned. It definitely had us singing the blues from time to time. Now it’s done, it looks decent and we packed up and relocated ourselves back to Idaho. Just the two of us muscling through it all. One of us muscles through better than the other, shorter one!

New and Blue

What puts a smile on my face these days? Returning to my future home state, Idaho. We’ve now crossed the Idaho state line 3 times this year and I’m sure there’ll be 1 or 2 more crossings before we finish out the year.

Idaho Border

That’s all for now. As I write this we are making our way westward to our build lot in Idaho. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited to return back to the dirt.

Brilliant Blues

Here’s a few more brilliant blue scenes from the archive.

A post showcasing what’s blue in my world would not be complete without my favorite blue tiny house on wheels! The rig has been our home in many places over 10s of thousands of miles. As we work on building a new home, Maximus will be our construction central home. This year may be the most time we spend in this tiny home we affectionately call Maximus. Hopefully, we’ll work in 2 or 3 travel jaunts in between phases of the house build.
