Being a somewhat laid back and serious person doesn’t mean I don’t know how to be silly. I tell jokes all the time. Are they funny? I think so because I laugh at them all, sometimes before the punch line is delivered. I am told, I’m not supposed to laugh before I deliver the punch line. Do I care? Nope. If I can’t laugh at my own silliness and jokes how am I supposed to laugh at my mistakes?
One Funny After Another Kind Of Trip
Traveling and silly don’t always go together but combine a cold mountain lake…

…with a girl friend and her ancient fishing waders and float tube….

…and you have two 50 somethings giggling as we fit ourselves into the waders flop ourselves down into 50 something degree water.

I suppose the funniest thing to my friend, Kim, is she never thought I’d go for it.
Was it fun? Yes!
Was it cold? Oh, Yes!
Did we stay dry? Heck No!
We never expected this trip to be as cold as it was. It was nearly June but, that year the snow kept coming and prevented summer from making an appearance. While I floated with my flipper feet, I just kept giggling and imagining the sun being warmer and shining brightly out here on the beautiful lake
Am I Coming or Going?
Do you see something wrong with this picture?
On another day, we rented bikes for most of the afternoon. Taking in the area on bike was a great way to visit more of the lakes. What I thought would be a 2 hour journey ended up being a full day. Along the way, we took breaks and wandered around needing to remove the helmet and give the head a rest.

My challenge was orienting the helmet properly before we set off again. Of course Kim, being an avid cyclist about bust her bladder when she caught sight of me being ready to go and had to snap a picture. It didn’t feel odd at the time but, now, I can look at that picture and laugh at the memory of her laughing.

Although my funnies was as a girlfriend road trip we do much of our traveling in our truck camper. Lake Tahoe is accessible off of California Highway 395. Think Mammoth Lakes area for skiing and Mount Whitney for an extreme elevation backpack trek.
We have traveled along Hwy 395 more than a couple of times. However, we have only been able to hang out for a few days here and there to see some of the sights including Lake Tahoe, Laurel Creek Trail and Mono Lake. If you plan a trip through California, these are all must see areas!

So you finally hooked up with Kim, or were these old photos?

This is a good friend of mine that you’ve never met. We worked together at western digital. I connected with Childhood Kim Johnson a couple of years ago and meet up when we can back in California.

I thought it was Kim because you mentioned her name. I’ve not seen her physically since I left CA back in 1983, so 40 years ago and I imagined she’s aged a bit. 🙂 Mom

It’s always good to laugh at ourselves, Cheryl! The backward bike helmet was apparent to me very quickly–trust me it’s easy to do! I didn’t realize you needed a float tube to go with waders! Probably a good idea–it does look silly but I’m sure you wore it well in the water 🙂

I absolutely wore it well and looked like I knew what I was doing…also made sure no one else was silly enough to be trying to take a dip in that cold water to actually witness the crazy ladies!
We’ll need to consult real fishermen/women, but I think most just use waders and don’t need to go far enough to need the float. If I knew it’d be that cold, I’d have brought my wetsuit!
