Photo of the week theme is our funny furry and feathered friends. Pop on in and visit Mr. Cooper but also a variety of wildlife we have around us in Wyoming and back in Idaho.
Not sure Cooper would agree he’s funny especially now that he’s a 15 year old “pup” but we know he’s a odd yet extremely cute dog!

Although he is now showing his age, still enjoys going for a walk even if it’s a slow stroll or just to the end of a short driveway.
Cooper only lives for food and his preferred snacks are vegetables, especially carrots and sweet potatoes. He doesn’t turn down many vegetables. Throw a brussel sprout or kale leaf at him and he’ll gobble those up too.

Cooper is also not a water dog which of course makes sense; I’m not sure any pug is a water dog and he definitely inherited many pug traits. He has such a worried expression.

Our Other Animal Friends
May 2023 will forever be the “Move My Mom” month. Mom wasn’t the only one being uprooted. An adopted cat, Sasha, had to brave her first long road trip. Although she took about 1-2 hours to calm down in the car every day, she turned out to be a traveling trooper.

We have been busy working on house repairs and renovations in Rawlins, WY. Cooper has appreciated staying in one place and the mostly mild temperatures the past 3 weeks. For fun he has numerous bunnies to think about chasing. I said think about chasing because he gets as far as lunging, then realize he has no steam in his old body these days.

The deer population is very low this spring following a harsh winter. We’ve now see a threesome of two bucks and a doe roaming around and finding their way to the back yard to hang out. Their molt aka winter coat is still shedding away.

Back at our new home site we have a few furry critters also living onsite or meandering through the lot.

There’s also a neighborhood skunk still around, but I don’t think I’ll try for a close photo encounter!
Wildlife on BLM Public Lands
Wild Burros are interesting beasts and we’ve seen them only once in the 5 years we’ve been traveling. Just this past February in Arizona, we stayed in a popular recreational area. All was quiet that first night, then we saw them as we hike along a dry riverbed and heard the hee hawing numerous times. They were as curious about me as I was about them. In total there was about 7 or 8 burros.

These are such great pics of Cooper and his gang of furry friends, Cheryl! At 15 he is doing so well, even if his energy flags a bit. It must have been difficult to move your Mom’s cat, but it turned out well. Nice to see the deer and other wildlife–love the buck eating your apples 😉

We now have an electric fence around those young fruit trees so they don’t get consumed by the deer!
