Good, old brown, the familiar color that is warm and comfortable. It is also earthy and grounding.

Brown is our color of the month photo theme #SundayStills. If you missed last week’s Leaves post, check out my new fall photos from in Southern Idaho.

Our creek is lined with numerous native trees and I wish I knew what they were. This one here is unique with it’s cluster of leaves holding on a while longer before they are released to the ground and creek.

My least favorite brown is mud but one of my favorite browns comes in the form of trees. You can’t help but enjoy their shade, their reaching branches and this time of year, the colorful leaves. They are so alive and can live many many years.

Here’s two photos of brown trees that finally met their end. Perhaps it makes you mad like my beaver felled tree below or sad like the tree that grew old and needed to be removed. As the years pass the removed tree stump’s insides just withered. Hopefully it’s become a tree house for some local critter or two.

The good news is while many species turn into skeleton looking trees after losing their leaves, It’s time for the conifers in the area to stand out. They remain green and are settling in for winter while sprouting their brown pine cones.

Of course my favorite brown at this moment is in the form of 2×6 lumber! If you visit the blog this year, you already know we’re building a home in Southern Idaho. We designed the shouse (Steve did all the CAD work too) and we are now our own General Contractors. Lots of work and learning happening regularly, especially by me. Fortunately, my project management skills are coming in handy these days.

Framing started a few weeks ago and although we’re not quite in the home stretch yet, it’s feeling like we’re getting close! A portion of our roof trusses went up a few days ago. It may be fall, leaves may be dead and left to mulch on the ground but this building is alive and coming into it’s own.

I plan to continue posting our progress over the next several months. Keep stopping by the blog to see how we’re progressing.
