When looking through your photos, do you pause at the sunsets or sunrises you’ve captured? I do.
Why is that? For me they are memorable and bookmark something special. Sometimes it’s a place, other times, it’s simply a moment in time.
X Marks the Spot
Some are grand and even unique. I love how the lake glows along a stretch of the North Platte River in Wyoming.
This marked the tail end of several nights discovering river side boondocking spots specifically to enjoy kayaking. Although this camping location wasn’t necessarily wonderful that time of year due to bug season, it was next to the water and allowed us to launch upstream, then kayak down to the camper.
Book Marking a Milestone
This sunset marks the beginning of our falling in love with boondocking in the south-west USA. Waking up overlooking a great red canyon is how the day started. It ended with the sun setting behind these two mesas where the road winds through the unique red sand. It was a milestone for me being able to dig through maps and various websites to discover and navigate us completely off grid for the first time. Although the location is somewhat well known, the area is so large you can find yourself all alone out here.
Marking the End of a Wonderful Trip
I’m not completely sure how I ended up with this blazing image. This was our first time staying Cabo San Lucas, MX. We thoroughly enjoyed the evenings being able to find new sunset vantage points.
Unlike Cabo where I’ve only visited a couple of times, Cancun is a regular destination. It’s consistently become my winter escape especially once retirement kicked into gear. Turns out the timing typically means we have an anniversary or a birthday to celebrate and getting out to a nice dinner is a treat. We headed out to discover a new place overlooking the Nichupté lagoon. The golden sunset marked the end to a delicious dinner and a memorable trip.
More Favorites
I’m sure some of these pictures may look familiar, as they are my favorites and have definitely been shared in previous posts.
Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully I’ll be able to collect a handful of newer sunset or sunrise photos through 2024. Although our travel will be limited with our house build underway, I’ll be making a few escapes to other areas.

Wonderful memories and galleries of sunrises and sunsets, Cheryl! I love thinking about the first time experiencing something or some place special marked with a celestial event 🙂 The cool thing about Cabo is it’s on the tip of Baja and you can see the rise or set from an unexpected POV!
I’m sure you will find many more sunsets and sunrises to add to your collection. Your Shouse will come along quickly. And we’re always up for an adventure to come to your place and put Hans to work 😉
