How appropriate that our photo theme is wings this week right after I captured this lovely image. Who else has orange dragon flies playing in their yard? The orange is eye catching but those delicate dragonfly wings, seen mostly through the camera’s eye, are beautiful.

Dragon Fly

We all have our own kind of wings. The snazzy wings of a dragonfly may not fit us introverts; we’ll go with the strong, sophisticated look this black swan is quietly showcasing.

Beautiful Black Swan

No matter what wings you have and you do have some, it can take courage to really put them out there. Even if our wings are not strong enough to take us the distance, we, like this feldgling, can aspire to leave our safe place.

Like any critter with wings knows, they need to stretch use their wings to get where they desire. I like to think people also all need to stretch our virtual wings to achieve what it is we desire.

It might help to enlist a cheerleader who’s job is to nudge us onto that next adventure.

Stop just gazing out and wondering why you can’t get somewhere. We need to step into our next desires and not always stay in our safe place.

Seagull at Aliso Beach

Step to the edge, take a step and launch. As you soar higher, take in the new view, new opportunities and grow.

I think about how much I enjoy my status quo and taking it easy. However, my life now would be completely different if I hadn’t spread my wings and taken in new experiences, new learnings, or new opportunities. Today at the end of my 50s, I have a full life. A full life that still has me learning new skills, making new friends, rediscovering old friends, seeing more new places than I could’ve imagined, and collecting more memories (and photos) than I could have ever imagined. There is still a cautious side to me that’ll never disappear but my courageous side has pushed me to launch into new areas.

I hope you are brave enough to spread your wings and seize new opportunities.

I hope you enjoyed my winged photos. They were taken over many years with the oldest photo here from 2008 and the newest one was just last week on July 17, 2024!
