How appropriate that our photo theme is wings this week right after I captured this lovely image. Who else has orange dragon flies playing in their yard? The orange is eye catching but those delicate dragonfly wings, seen mostly through the camera’s eye, are beautiful.
Dragon Fly
We all have our own kind of wings. The snazzy wings of a dragonfly may not fit us introverts; we’ll go with the strong, sophisticated look this black swan is quietly showcasing.
Beautiful Black Swan
No matter what wings you have and you do have some, it can take courage to really put them out there. Even if our wings are not strong enough to take us the distance, we, like this feldgling, can aspire to leave our safe place.
Like any critter with wings knows, they need to stretch use their wings to get where they desire. I like to think people also all need to stretch our virtual wings to achieve what it is we desire.
It might help to enlist a cheerleader who’s job is to nudge us onto that next adventure.
I’ll be the friend cheering you on and will even gift you a feather so you can fly further and higher
Stop just gazing out and wondering why you can’t get somewhere. We need to step into our next desires and not always stay in our safe place.
Seagull at Aliso Beach
Step to the edge, take a step and launch. As you soar higher, take in the new view, new opportunities and grow.
I think about how much I enjoy my status quo and taking it easy. However, my life now would be completely different if I hadn’t spread my wings and taken in new experiences, new learnings, or new opportunities. Today at the end of my 50s, I have a full life. A full life that still has me learning new skills, making new friends, rediscovering old friends, seeing more new places than I could’ve imagined, and collecting more memories (and photos) than I could have ever imagined. There is still a cautious side to me that’ll never disappear but my courageous side has pushed me to launch into new areas.
I hope you are brave enough to spread your wings and seize new opportunities.
With every beat of my wings, I leave behind what was to discover what will be. The world beneath me, a canvas of endless possibilities. 🌍❤️
I hope you enjoyed my winged photos. They were taken over many years with the oldest photo here from 2008 and the newest one was just last week on July 17, 2024!

Grasshopper in flight is quite the challenge! At least my dragonflies liked to linger. My bird flying over the ocean was from my 2008 trip to the Virgin Islands. He kept pace with the boat for quite awhile! I’m not sure what the fledgling is; Steve discovered him one afternoon and left him some water. The next day he was gone and hopefully launched upward.
Nice to have wings. Did I tell you about my little fledgling that I kept an eye on for nearly a week until it was able to fly. Poor little thing. Mama stayed close by and brought it food.
Been a week. Got stung by wasps, I think, which hurt like hell. Got stung 4 times in my left arm and fingers. I thought it was a bee hive, but I think now it’s wasps. Been stung by them before and their sting is far more painful than bee stings. Hugs, Mom
Wonderful wings and sentiments, Cheryl! Wow, stunning photos! What kind of bird is the fledgling? My fave is the bird flying over the waves!
I’m trying to capture the wings of the grasshoppers when they fly. Wish me luck 😆

The fledgling looked like a turkey vulture judging by his beak. As for the grasshoppers, I might have better luck capturing lightning!

Turkey Vulture? I wonder where he came from because I’ve never seen them around

I believe their habitat is the entire west. We see them here. I googled turkey vulture fledglings and yours looks a lot like one.

I don’t think you mentioned your fledgling. Sounds like Mama bird did her job helping him get strong enough to fly.
