Sunday Stills photo theme for the week is weird, wild and odd shots. First up is one of our newest Praying Mantis. We love having bug eaters hang out with us but I’d prefer they remain outdoors. For some reason they show up indoors and we need to scoop them out to the grass. Don’t want them getting trapped somewhere inside.

Note that a pregnant Praying Mantis will bite if you attempt to capture them. I learned this week that from Terri, our host. Check out her oddball post using the link at the end of this weeks post.

That’s my newest critter shot this week. The rest of the photos were pulled from my photo collections.

I recently shared these hens hanging out in a tree which was a first for me and I found it odd for them to be above my head. We found them when visiting an Hawaiian coffee farm.

Puffy Oddities

The sky can draw us some interesting images as the clouds morph and move about. X marks the spot, made for an interesting sky sunset photo.

Frozen Designs

Fall 2023 brought in some early frost and even snow. I found myself quite intrigued with these frozen formations.

Favorite Odd Geological Park

After being inspired by another traveling couple’s write up of Bisti Badlands, I worked a visit into our driving plan back in 2019. The Bisti Badlands landscape can only be described as other worldly.

If you enjoy these Bisti Badlands, below are a few other posts related to Bisti as well as Death Valley, another other worldly destination.

Odd in Unexpected Places

We’ve stumbled onto a few oddities in very unexpected places when we were traveling extensively. This is a long time favorite tradition on a remote trail route through Death Vally. I’d obviously have had to plan ahead to leave behind a tea kettle at the junction sign in Death Valley.

Tea Kettles populate the area sign

Leaving a tea kettle is supposed to bring good luck as well as honor those that brave this very remote route within the park.

Sometimes the weird ends up being human created out in the middle of nature and in these two examples in the middle of no where.

And how about the random roadside “art” you can find sprinkled in various places such as outside of Las Vegas or near Anza Borrego near San Diego. I don’t have pictures of the Vegas rocks or the metal scupltures in Anzo Borrega but here’s a colorfully decorated (aka graffiti) old bus. We stopped here briefly because it came up on google maps as a sight to see. Um, wasn’t that interesting to us, but it got us to stop which is obviously the point.

Middle of Nowhere Roadside Art

Hope you enjoyed this weeks odd photo collection! Thanks for visiting.
