Owls and things that go “boo” and even “who-who” in the night seem to fit our black or black & white weekly photo theme. Thanks for visiting my weekly Sunday Stills blog post, especially this week, where I finally can show off a couple fantastic photos I recently captured.
With the theme being tied to our color of the month, Black; which is also a Halloween color and a major US October event, I chose these owls to show off. I’m still working on using my new Sony camera to it’s best potential and once I captured these two rock star photos, I finally feel like I’m making some progress. Although the owls have some black coloring, I decided to showcase them in both their full color version and a nice black and white version.

Those eyes! They watched me for a length of time. Their long stares worked in my favor as I continued snapping away. I really enjoy the color version of my first owl but the black and white photo of the 2nd one turned out very well too. Which owl photo is your favorite?
Here are a few addilitional black colored critters that I’ve recently run into:

This young calf caught me snapping away and sauntered my direction with a very curious “who are you and what are you doing” kind of look.
I’ll leave you with another black and white comparison to enjoy, a no longer in use bird’s nest. We see 1 to 2 a year as summer comes to a close and the winds start blowing more aggressively.

Glad you liked my owls! We think these are the same ones that were babies on the property a few years back. Food must be plentiful and they stuck around. That property is in So Cal. We’ll be heading to your neck of the woods over Thanksgiving to visit family.

I love owls. Unfortunately, they aren’t seen around here (heard sometimes, though, so I know they are there). Your pictures captured their majestic bearing.

Fabulous collection of black and B&W images, Cheryl! I’m sooo jealous of your owl pics! They’re gorgeous in either mode. If I had an owl pic, I would set it up in B/W but leave the eyes yellow! Were the owls on your property? I hear them at night around here but never see them. Great job!

What a great owl pic idea. I’m not quite sure how to do an edit like that! Yes the owls have been hanging around the California property. I figured out when it was looking for dinner by accident and got a couple not so good shots. The next evening found the same owl under the tree and then he flew up to the fence. Then he left and I turned to see another just a few feet away watching me! It was very exciting to say the least.
