The official start of Spring has passed us by. We got a peek at some spring weather and now the freezing and snow flurries re-visited us this past weekend. With no April #flowers (yet), is Spring really here or not? April flowers may be the photo theme for this week, but we’re in bud mode here!
Springing Back To Building
For the past month, we’ve settled back into our “working-on-the-shouse” building routines even though the weather keeps getting in our way.
Mother nature may have chilled us with a cold front but we’ve had enough warm weather recently that our tree buds are starting to show off. Apples and pears, anyone?
All our other trees are also starting to bud. I’m excited to have a front seat viewing the yard’s transformation this year. It’s invigorating to see our lovely green foliage returning to the property.
Along with the tree buds the weeds are springing up too. The mower finally got put to use this weekend (before the wet, frozen mix arrived). It’ll be the first year we’re here early enough to start tackling weeds and get them under control.
Back at the Citrus Orchard we would be seeing our fig tree start to bud by now. It does quite a transformation. Here’s our fig new buds and others from previous years.
No Longer Springing
Just over a week ago, I had to put Mr. Cooper down. He was 16 years old and lived a good life. His first few years, he was the standard city dog living in a tract home, going on typical sidewalks for his daily walks. Being a puggle, a beagle+pug mix, meant he instinctively chased everything that moved. Early on it was simply chasing harmless lizards and of course the neighbor cats. Then, he upped his game and caught a skunk.
A couple years post-skunk incident, we moved out to the citrus orchard where the possibilities for chasing something grew. He met raccoons, possums, gophers and even more cats.
For half of his life he was a city dog. Then he became our road tripping pup and traveled to the great outdoors. Athough he hated the drives, he looked forward to his discoveries and has been fascinated by deer, cows, pigs, bison and more. Our road trips provided him with many adventures. He adapted to living in the small quarters with us and even preferred it as he got older.
It’s impossible to forget a dog that gave you so much to remember.

Nice photos. House looks inhabitable if not completed yet. I’d throw down an airbed and sleep under a real roof for a change. Ha Hugs, Mom

Being a one man crew takes a while to finish the stuff you can’t see being done inside! Plumbing and electrical are all underway. Roofing is now 90% so I’ll be able to check that off the list. You must not think I sleep in a real bed…lol. The camper is a great place to live.

I’d not think a camper would be a great place to live. Too cramped for me. I sometimes feel cramped in a small house. But, if you’re OK with it, then why bother to go to the expense of building a BIG house? 🙂

It’s a means to an end…living inside the camper on the lot while we’re actively building it ourselves means I don’t have to rent temporarily housing. All the necessities are comfortably covered. Don’t forget the house is also a shop. Much of our lifestyle depends on having the shop to create great things … aka the camper.

Hi Cheryl, your spring blooms and buds are si pretty, sorry about the winter mix. Glad you are moving along on the house. Inspired images of the budding trees with the house as a backdrop.
I’m so sorry to read about Mr Cooper. Wow, he lived a long, wonderful life with you. I still have Aero’s collars and sweaters…can’t bear to part with them and it’s been 18 moths. I’m sure you have countless memories of him and all your fun times together. May he romp in Heaven as a young pup with Aero and others that have gone on before us. ❤️💐🐾
