This past February, warm temps and other truck camper owners offer us a respite from building and the cold, wet weather. This was the 5th annual Truck Camper Adventure Rally with over 400 truck campers in attendance. We’ve been regulars since the first one with only 50 of us attending. Our first year was with the same Ford F350, diesel 6.0L and our old Lance 1130 slide in camper.

The new adventure rig build happened through the following year and the 2nd Annual rally was Maximus’ maiden voyage. He literally drove it out of the shop for the 1st time and started the 4 hour drive into Quartzsite, AZ.

The rally is a great place to not only see the variation in rigs including other DIY builds but also to share ideas and learn. Steve thoroughly enjoys being able to share with other DIYers RV technology improvements that make being off grid more accessible. He seems to have found his niche with RV power systems and the diesel 6.3L engine which were the two topics he’s covered the past two years.

Following the 1st annual rally, we took Maximus’ on the Bradshaw trail. We knew how the rig performed on the pavement and it was time to validate how well it would perform off road. It was a real SHAKE down trip. We had a few mishaps making it a successful 1st voyage.
Since we didn’t do a separate blog post or video of this years rally event, I’m linking two Truck Camper Adventure articles directly. If you’re a truck camper owner and haven’t made it out to the rally yet, I hope you get a chance to attend. We’ll be back next year where you can pick Steve’s brain in person.

Technical Docs & Class Materials
This blog has both our camping and road trip travels plus our DIY life with a repository of Steve’s technical documentation. We house the build documents along with numerous other write ups including his rally class handouts on our Tech Docs page. We hope you find it useful and perhaps inspiring to find a good reference as well as a deep dive into RV technologies.
