Photos following our color of the month, RED! Just in time for Valentines day, I’m showing you a couple areas we love to visit.
Utah’s Red Rock Areas!
Utah’s red rock never ceases to amaze and we return as often as we can. The Bryce National Park is one of my favorites for geological formations and layers of color.

Beyond the national park there are numerous other areas to explore full of red rock. We ventured into Casto Canyon and Arches Trail for hiking that was more remote. No crowds, quiet and spectacular views. Plan a stop at the Red Canyon Visitor Center along Highway 12 for maps. The ranger we spoke to was very knowledgable on the area and the various trails to pick from.

Wyoming’s Red Rocks
A new find in 2022 was an area near Lander, WY. Louis Lake Road was the destination which allowed us to explore the surrounding areas. We found an old mining town, an underground river and this red rolling hill and jeep trail.

Arizona’s Red Rocks
When Arizona and red rocks are combined you correctly think of the Sedona, AZ area. Popular for art and red rocks along with dining, spas, hikes and views galore. We’ve only been there once (so far) and found both jeep trails and hikes very rewarding.
Views from Schnelby Hill Road and our Jeep run!

Red in Name Only!
As I browsed through my red photos, our recent visit to the Redwoods in California made my heart stutter. The complete Coastal California trip is a bucket list item and the memory of my breath being taken away. If you’ve never been or haven’t heard of it, add it to that bucket list now! Redwoods are magnificent and 95% of the worlds redwoods are in California. The dense, coastal, fog is the best environment to keep these old giants going strong.

Red Lodge, MT
It’s not red rocks but the Rock Creek runs through this little town located in beautiful Montana. A small tourist town catering to skiers in the winter and travelers in the summer is Steve’s hometown. Since we retired, it is an annual hangout for us in the summer time. Last year we made it for July 4th celebrations; the small town life is alive and well!

It’s all pretty amazing, esp in Utah because there’s so much of it and it’s all different!

I love it! We were just in southern Utah last month and took a road trip to see that red rock scenery. Bryce Canyon was covered in snow, so it’s nice to see the contrast in warmer weather. We’re thinking about heading to the west coast this spring and are hoping to squeeze in a visit to the Redwoods. Your pictures are providing some great inspiration and ideas.

The Redwoods were amazing and the trip much more pleasant in a nice passenger car versus our big truck camper…the Hwy 1 drive is slow and winding in many spots. Hope you get a chance to check out those posts and even the YouTube videos. We wish we weren’t passing thru and had more time to linger a few days in the Redwoods. Would’ve been fun to get more hiking in and gone into more remote groves.

Oh I am bookmarking this post for future reference, Cheryl. Gorgeous images of red rocks and red-woods! When we head back from our road trip in April, we are going to try to visit either Zion or Bryce. Zion is a little closer to Hwy 15, and we have to see if we can continue. Love the red rocks of Sedona! I’m happy to have seen those in person both in winter and in summer. Red Lodge is only an 8-hour drive from our area-hmmm, sounds like fun!

Both parks would be wonderful to see. There’s lodging just outside of Bryce and the small town leading into Zion has many hotels and I’d check into AirBnB options too. Can’t wait to see what photos you capture on that road trip!

Thanks, Cheryl. Zion seems closer and that might make a great stopover!

Great collection of images! I love the red rocks of Utah and Arizona too… and hope to visit again soon. That gray and white bird on the grass looks like he is wearing a red mask.

Thank you! I don’t know what that bird is but the picture was from our Princevilla, Kauai vacation a couple of years ago. We try to hit some red rock area at least once a year.
